Alessandro lived in the U.S. from 2008-2011, and upon his return to Rome, he became a member of the nascent 5-Star Movement (M5S), a political party founded by Beppe Grillo and web strategist Gianroberto Casaleggio. He has been a member of the organization since then, and is currently serving as M5S legal advisor for electoral issues and proceedings and coordinator of the movement’s legal office for the Lazio regional government.
Alessandro has been deeply involved in the electoral procedure, serving as a delegate in various elections. Delegates serve an absolutely crucial role in the electoral process, as they are responsible for filing all of the necessary paperwork and documentation in order to authorize a particular political party to participate in the elections. Alessandro was the delegate for the 5-Star Movement in the following elections:
City of Rome Administration (mayoral and municipal elections) 2016
European Parliament 2014
Lazio Regional Parliament 2013
Alessandro began his activism in the 5-Star Movement in Rome’s 1st Municipal District (historic center), where he was entrusted with handling several important legal matters for the organization. In 2012 he drafted numerous briefs and legal documents, including a brief on the legal risks for the group’s website management, and another detailing legal policies to adopt regarding privacy laws. He also drafted the legal disclaimer for the group’s Rome website and developed the initial and final drafts of the new general conditions of the site, as well as a revision of the site’s privacy policies.
Alessandro was part of the legal team responsible for drafting the legal documents necessary for forming the organization’s online forum for Rome, as well as handling other legal matters related to the group’s work in Rome, which is detailed further on his page on the M5S website.
Alessandro was the attorney responsible for the lawsuits regarding the annulment of thousands of ballots with “Beppe Grillo” write-ins (detailed further in Italian here in an article from daily Il Fatto Quotidiano).
Alessandro was the legal advisor for M5S candidate Marcello De Vito in his 2013 campaign for Rome mayor as well as for current Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi during her 2016 campaign.
